5 Mainstream Processing Techniques for Cut Steel Plates
When it comes to fabricating steel plate cutting parts, choosing the right method makes all the difference in edge quality and cost-efficiency. While the industry offers various approaches, these five mainstream processes cover the vast majority of project requirements.

Laser Cutting stands out for precision work. If you need intricate shapes with a narrow kerf and a clean edge that requires little to no post-finishing, fiber laser systems are the go-to choice for thin to medium gauge material.

Plasma Cutting offers a practical balance of speed and power. It handles medium thickness plates with ease and is significantly more economical than laser when dealing with conductive metals over half an inch thick.

Flame Cutting (Oxy-Fuel) remains the workhorse for heavy fabrication. There is simply no better way to slice through very thick steel sections, often exceeding several inches, without breaking the budget on machinery costs.

Waterjet Cutting provides a unique thermal advantage. Because this process uses high-pressure water mixed with abrasive, there is no heat-affected zone (HAZ). It's the perfect solution for materials that warp easily or require strict metallurgical integrity.

Shearing is the unsung hero of straight-line cuts. For simple rectangles and blanks destined for further bending or welding, nothing beats the raw speed and low operating cost of a hydraulic shear.
