Q245R is national standard carbon pressure vessel steel plate following GB 713, the basic grade for low-to-medium pressure storage tanks and industrial boilers. Its designation “245” stands for minimum yield strength 245 MPa, “R” marks pressure vessel exclusive use, upgraded from old 20R boiler steel with stricter purity and toughness control.
Controlled carbon and manganese content balance strength and weldability, with low residual sulfur and phosphorus to avoid brittle fracture during long-term pressure service. Standard tensile strength ranges 400–520 MPa, with excellent cold bending performance for tank head stamping and forming. Plates can be supplied as hot rolled or normalized according to customer design requirements.
This grade is widely used for atmospheric & low-pressure storage tanks, small boilers, water heat exchangers and general chemical mixing vessels, featuring obvious cost advantages compared with alloy vessel steel. It gains huge popularity among small and medium engineering clients in Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America for bulk tank construction.
